John D. Sundquist
Bio
My main area of specialization is historical Germanic linguistics, with a particular emphasis on morphosyntatic variation and change in German, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English. A secondary area of interest of mine is German language learning and teaching. I teach a wide variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on historical linguistics, morphosyntax, corpus linguistics, and German language and culture.
Education
I received my Ph.D. in Germanic Linguistics from Indiana University in 2002 with a focus on historical Germanic languages, including Old Norse, Old High German, Old Saxon, and Old English. The title of my dissertation was Morphosyntactic Change in the History of the Mainland Scandinavian Languages. I also focused on coursework in Second Language Acquisition theory and German language pedagogy.
Employment
I am a Professor of German and Linguistics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. My appointment is in the Department of German and Russian in the School of Languages and Cultures. I am also a Linguistics faculty member in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue.
